I started hiking again on this past Wednesday. Actually, I started again a couple of weeks ago when my son, Ben, and I went to Arizona and hiked and camped on the rim of the Grand Canyon. But, that’s another story.
Wednesday, I hiked Mount Osceola. This mountain sits on the northwest side of Waterville Vally in New Hampshire. Osceola is 4320 feet tall and offers a great view from it’s ledgy top. The trail is sometimes steep and rugged. At times, you scramble from boulder to boulder to make your way. The trail is lined with birch and hemlock trees and offers very little view….

I wonder if God ever feels taken for granted. I understand what it feels like. It feels like you have been forgotten. It’s as though people just assume you will always be there. It’s like they assume you have no needs of your own. Maybe God doesn’t have needs. Maybe he never feels lonely. But, I still wonder if he feels taken for granted.
Maybe it is because I become so accustomed to Him being there. Maybe I become too familiar with Him and assume too much. Maybe it’s just my attitude towards Him or my perception of our relationship.
I tend to think along the lines of MY Lord,
MY Savior,
MY Father,
My God—as though …

An estimated 19 million American adults are living with major depression. Many of these people are Christians. I am one of them, are you? It is very unfortunate that, in the Christian community, there is often a feeling of shame associated with depression. Sometimes, well meaning brothers and sisters will make you feel that it is simply a lack of faith which is causing the depression. The suggested cure is prayer and Bible reading. There are many causes of depression, not all of them faith issues. For some Christians, there may be faith issues which add to the depression which are not the root cause. I am not saying that prayer and Bible reading are not important. They are …

Here in New Hampshire, we are caught between winter and spring. Today the high temperature will be in the low 60s. By Sunday, we will do well to reach 40 degrees.
Winter tries to hang on. There is still plenty of snow, especially in the mountains. We still clean frost off the cars in the morning with temps below freezing. The lakes are still mostly covered in ice, though it is getting to thin to be safe. And, when it rains, it is cold and biting. The chill goes right to the bones.
And yet, spring tries to break through. Days like today with warmer temperatures.
The sun climbs higher in the sky.
Streams are swollen with the melting …

Have you ever been reading the Bible and the words suddenly jump out and grab you and won’t let go? They are words you have read hundreds of times but, today, you can’t go on reading; they won’t let you past.
For example; “You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” (Matthew 5:43-44)
I’ve read those words over and over before. Today, they grabed me and wouldn’t let me go on. Today, they made me stop and meditate on what they said. Today, they made me chew them up and digest them. Why today?
During …

Alphabetized, categorized, and organized.
We put things in there places.
Our computers hold gigabytes of files and folders.
Everything in its proper place.
Where does God fit?
What size box will hold Him?
What place do we put Him in, so we can find Him when we need Him?
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
or weighed the mountains on the scales
and the hills in a balance?
Who has understood the mind of the LORD,
or instructed him as his counselor?…
